Hundreds of People Gathered in Atlanta to Mourn Young Scooter’s Death
The rapper died on his 39th birthday.
Young Scooter was honored with a touching memorial in the neighborhood he grew up in Atlanta.
Hundreds of people gathered at Bessie Branham Park in the Kirkwood neighborhood on Thursday to celebrate the late rapper, who died following an encounter with police, according to Fox 5 Atlanta.
Scooter's family, friends, and fans pulled up and released hundreds of red, white, and blue balloons to honor Scooter's life. Fellow Atlanta rapper Ralo said some kind words for Scooter during the memorial.
"The biggest lesson that I learned throughout it is possibly that, you know, we were going through things before he passed and I just wish I would have fixed it," said Ralo. "I got to live with that for the rest of my life."
"I love you son, and I’m going to miss you," his mother said during the event.
Several of Scooter's friends also shared kind words such as Baby Jade who said, "A lot of the kids from his community didn't necessarily have dads all the time or have that parental support, he always stepped in and stepped up.
She continued: "If they needed someone to come and shout at the game, if they needed a suit for the banquet, whatever it was, he was just amazing, and Atlanta took a really big hit with this one."
The late rapper will be buried in Walterboro, South Carolina, according to 11Alive.
Scooter reportedly died on March 25 after suffering a leg injury while running away from police. Scooter was found with a wound in his thigh from jumping over several fences, according to the Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office in Atlanta. Police placed a tourniquet on Scooter, and he was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The 31-year-old woman who called police and claimed a woman and a child were getting beaten was identified as former Baddies star Demetria Spence. She was arrested and charged with transmitting a false public alarm. A judge later granted Spence a $7,500 bond.
