Andrew Schulz Says 'Even Kendrick Fans Were a Little Bit Let Down' by Super Bowl Halftime Show
Schulz admitted, however, that "Not Like Us" is "so f*cking catchy."
Andrew Schulz is arguing that “even Kendrick fans were a little bit let down” by this year’s Apple Music Super Bowl Halftime Show.
In a podcast clip now making the rounds, Schulz, who’s widely assumed to have been the target of a key lyric on Kendrick Lamar’s GNX track “wacced out murals,” discussed the New Orleans performance at length.
“I think that’s where even Kendrick fans were a little bit let down,” he said at one point, as seen below. “They wanted to prove to the world that he’s the best, and I don’t think that that performance made the casuals go, ‘Yeah, he’s the best.'”
From there, Schulz argued that there are “certain abilities that just cross over primally,” at which point he cited performers including Adele and Bruno Mars.
“If you got pipes, bro, you can win people over that don’t even know who you are,” Schulz added.
The presence of the Drake-dissing “Not Like Us” in Kendrick’s setlist also received mention, with Schulz and his co-hosts agreeing that the track, currently No. 15 on the Hot 100 after 39 weeks on the chart, is “a universal smash hit.”
Still, Schulz argued that “there was no other song that’s a universal smash hit” in the setlist.
This led to mentions of Bad Bunny (“Bad Bunny can’t do the Super Bowl”) and “universality,” with Schulz citing Pitbull to make his point.
“Pitbull sells less tickets than Kendrick,” he said. “More people know Pitbull’s songs across all genres.”
Flo Rida then got a mention, with Schulz going as far as to say, “Flo-Rida’s a bigger artist than Kendrick Lamar.”
Last December, in response to “wacced out murals,” Schulz made remarks about K.Dot that were quickly called out by Meek Mill and others. Among them was Schulz saying that he “would make love to [Kendrick] and there's nothing he could do about it,” which he later tried to defend by citing Ice Cube’s classic diss track “No Vaseline.”
Cube’s son, O’Shea Jackson Jr., was quick to point out that the two are “not the same.”
