Diddy Trial: Chris Brown Mentioned as Cassie Cross-Examination Continues
Cassie's cross-examination continued on Friday.
Cassie's cross-examination in Diddy's federal sex trafficking and racketeering trial continued on Friday, complete with a mention of Chris Brown.
As first reported by Matthew Russell Lee, a.k.a. Inner City Press, Cassie was asked by the defense about Diddy allegedly going through her phone, leading to a mention of an instance in which he took her phone from her.
When asked if she danced with Brown, seemingly sometime around 2013, Cassie said she didn't. When asked to name what else Diddy took from her, Cassie said the Bad Boy Records founder was “angry” and also allegedly took her passport and car.
It wasn't immediately clear, however, whether this was in connection with the same incident or if the defense was asking this question more generally about Diddy and Cassie's relationship.
Other celebrities mentioned during the trial include Michael B. Jordan and Kid Cudi.
Cassie is featured in Brown’s 2022 video “Psychic” featuring Jack Harlow, as well as in the 2009 video for “Crawl.”
Brown is presently in the middle of some (entirely unrelated) legal trouble of his own. Thursday, he was arrested at a hotel in Manchester, England in connection with an alleged 2023 nightclub incident. The incident in question, as previously reported, saw the singer accused of striking a man with a tequila bottle multiple times while at the Tape London club. By Friday morning, local police had confirmed that Brown was facing a charge of grievous bodily harm with intent.
Ahead of the resumption of Cassie’s cross-examination on Friday, the government raised concerns over fears of the process extending beyond two days. In short, as detailed in reporting from Complex's Shawn Setaro, who has been in attendance for the duration of Diddy's trial thus far, the government argued that going beyond the end of the day on Friday would run the risk of a mistrial, with Cassie’s pregnancy specifically cited as a cause of concern. Furthermore, extending beyond two days of cross-examination, per the government, could subject Cassie to harassment.
As for Diddy, he has denied the allegations against him. For now, the trial is widely expected to run eight weeks in total.
