Tyler, the Creator Says It’s 'Annoying How Grateful' He Is for Pharrell: 'My North Star'
Tyler, whose new album is out later this month, also advised fans to go see 'Piece by Piece.'
Tyler, the Creator is again pointing to Pharrell as his proverbial “North Star” ahead of the release of his just-announced new album, Chromakopia.
In a recent Instagram Stories update, Tyler, whose Call Me If You Get Lost follow-up is shrewdly set to drop on a Monday instead of a Friday, urged fans who haven’t yet seen Morgan Neville’s Piece by Piece to promptly remedy that. He also spoke directly to Pharrell, for whom he has an “endless” amount of love.
“Go see Piece by Piece, Pharrell’s Lego movie, in theaters now,” Tyler said of the Lego-animated biographical film, the promo run for which has been stacked with highly quotable interview moments. “Pharrell, you’re my Noth Star. It’s annoying how grateful I am for you. The love is endless.”
Tyler’s affinity for Pharrell’s decades of creativity is well-documented. In the 2023 RapCaviar Presents docuseries on Hulu, he gave fans the gift of learning what Pharrell once told him during a studio session that ultimately rewired his entire artistic approach. Last June, he noted the “beautiful timing” of Pharrell’s first show with Louis Vuitton as its Men’s Creative Director.
“[Pharrell] continues to be a north star,” he said at the time.
The deep-rooted artistic respect is mutual, as Pharrell and Tyler have collaborated extensively over the years, including with the latter’s enlistment earlier this year for a Louis Vuitton capsule collection.
Chromakopia is out Oct. 28. For now, it's unclear if Pharrell will make an appearance on the album, though history would suggest it as a high possibility. All songs on the new album are “written, produced, and arranged by” Tyler.
