Rihanna Celebrates ASAP Rocky's Not Guilty Verdict in Gun Assault Trial: 'Glory Belongs to God'
The singer took to social media to celebrate the good news.
Rihanna celebrated ASAP Rocky's acquittal with a post shared to social media on Tuesday.
The singer and Rocky's partner hopped on her Instagram Story to share a grateful message. "The glory belongs to God and God alone!" she wrote. "Thankful, humbled by his mercy!"
Rocky was found not guilty on two felony counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm after a nearly four-week trial.
As the verdict was read earlier today (Feb. 18), Rocky nearly fell over in shock and immediately jumped to bear hug Rihanna, who was sitting behind him as people screamed and cheered nearby.
Addressing the jury, Rocky told them, "Thank y'all for saving my life."
Rihanna's been at court supporting Rocky throughout the trial. A few days ago, she brought their sons RZA and Riot to see the closing arguments.
In the footage that made its way around online, Rihanna arrived at the courthouse wearing a black leather jacket and was covered from the rain by an umbrella from a security team member.
Prior to that, Rihanna made her first court appearance in January to show support for Rocky while he was on trial.
Last month, when the trial began, Rocky pleaded not guilty and turned down a plea deal that would have had him spending just 180 days in jail. Speaking to reporters, his attorney, Joseph Tacopina, expressed how eager Rocky was to "tell his story."
"He's very articulate, very intelligent," said Tacopina. "He's a good human being, and that would come out if he testifies. But that's a decision that has not been made yet. It depends how the case goes."
