Jason Momoa Reveals Dramatic Transformation for 'Dune: Part 3'
The actor is returning to Denis Villeneuve’s 'Dune' universe after sitting out the second movie.
Production is underway on Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part 3, and one star just debuted a new look for the role.
Jason Momoa, who is returning to the franchise as Duncan Idahoe for the third movie, took to Instagram to share a video of himself shaving his face. Evidently, this marks the first time he’s shaven in six years.
“Goddamnit, I hate it!,” he said after looking at his newly shaven face.
The video comes as part of a promotional campaign for Momoa’s bottled water brand Mananalu — the anniversary of which also coincides with that of when he began filming the first of Villeneuve’s Dune movies.
“It's been about six years, maybe a little bit more since I did Dune,” said Momoa. “What was really special about that is that is when I started launching Mananalu. At that time, I think we were one of the first ones to ever release the aluminum bottle. And now, six years later, you know, airports are banning some of these plastics.”
Noting a shift in the bottled water game, Momoa has remained inspired to make an environmental impact. Elsewhere in the video, he revealed a partnership with Boomerang water to create “a closed-loop system.”
“The goal is just to eliminate waste and cut down on all the emissions,” Momoa said. “So imagine when you're in Hawaii, you go to all those hotels — my goal is to stop seeing all of these plastics.”
Momoa appeared in the Villeneuve’s first Dune installment but was absent for the second. With his return, he joins returning cast members Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, and Florence Pugh. Joining the cast is Momoa’s son, Nakoa-Wolf Momoa.
Earlier this month, Momoa spoke with Extra and revealed that his son earned his role on his own.
“You want your children to be better than you, and I really, actually believe he is,” Momoa said. “I couldn’t do what he’s doing at his age. There’s no way I could sit in a room with Denis Villeneuve and hold my own. I was on ‘Baywatch’ at 19. He’s 16 and holding s**t down with Denis Villeneuve.”
Dune: Part 3 is expected to premiere in theaters on December 25, 2026.
