Mo’Nique’s Son Shalon Apologizes to His Mother for ‘Betrayal’: ‘I Have to Take Full Accountability’
Tensions publicly escalated between them when Jackson claimed Mo'Nique had no desire to be his mother anymore.
Mo’Nique’s son Shalon Jackson publicly apologized to his mother for past comments he made about her.
In a TikTok video uploaded on Wednesday (May 28), Jackson gave a heartfelt apology to the actress and her husband, Sidney Hick, by acknowledging the harm he caused with a series of scathing videos he uploaded a year ago.
“Making those videos a year ago was a betrayal against our family, and I have to take full accountability for it,” Jackson said on TikTok. “Why I made the videos and how I was feeling at the time when I made them is irrelevant. I made them and I shouldn't have, period."
“My family did not deserve the backlash that they received from what I said," he continued. "My mother and Sidney were very justified to address my mental health condition at the time. I just simply didn't like it. Taking accountability can be hard if I allow it to be. Bottom line, I was wrong and I shouldn't have said any of what I said. I should have just kept my mouth shut and called my mother.”
Further into the four-minute video, the 35-year-old described an emotionally intense but healing family discussion initiated by his brothers that left him feeling like he “spiritually got jumped.”
“But at the end of the ass-whooping, my family did pick me up and give me a hug. The love my mother has for her family and the way that she loves life is a testament to her husband,” he said.
He also expressed regret that his actions affected his children’s relationship with their grandmother.
“Now, watching her take pride in making my son's baby food from scratch, to baking chickpea chocolate chip cookies with my daughter, to being with me the first time my son went underwater in the pool, makes me so happy to have been so wrong before,” Jackson said.
“I owe it to my family to make this apology public due to the fact that I made our family business public. Though the road to family redemption is hard, I'm looking forward to it,” he said toward the end of the clip.
According to Vibe, the conflict began after Jackson accused Mo’Nique’s description of their bond as a “false narrative” during her 2024 Club Shay Shay interview.
“Faith without work is dead, and neither one of us cares to put forth any effort to reconcile with the other,” Jackson said at the time. “We are separate as she put it because she doesn’t care to be my mother any more than I care to be her son.”
Mo’Nique and Hicks responded in an Instagram video, denying some of Jackson’s claims while detailing their financial support, including necessities for Jackson’s newborn and help with a car purchase. Days later, Mo’Nique shared private text messages in an attempt to refute Jackson’s accusations.
