Sebastian Stan lived on residuals before landing his Marvel role.

“I was actually struggling with work,” the actor told Vanity Fair in a new interview. “I had just gotten off the phone with my business manager, who told me I was saved by $65,000 that came in residuals from Hot Tub Time Machine.”

Stan appeared in the first Hot Tub Time Machine in 2010, playing the character Blaine, the leader of ski patrol and Lou Dorchen’s (Rob Corddry) rival at Kodiak Valley’s Winterfest ‘86.

Stan would go on to land the role of James "Bucky" Barnes / Winter Soldier in the first Captain America movie, 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger. Bucky Barnes became the Winter Soldier during World War II, when Hydra brainwashed him and turned him into an assassin.

Stan has starred in a total of eight Marvel Cinematic Universe films, including 2014’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Ant-Man, 2016’s Captain America: Civil War, 2018’s Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, and 2019’s Captain America: Brave New World.

He appeared in the Disney+ 2021 series, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and voiced Bucky Barnes in What If… ? from 2021 to 2024. He is also set to star in the unreleased 2025 film Thunderbolts* and 2026’s Avengers: Doomsday.
