Brenda Song Talks Meeting Macaulay Culkin, Initially Thought Relationship Would’ve Been a ‘Fling’
The actress, who shares two sons with Culkin, recently made an appearance on ‘The Drew Barrymore Show’ to promote 'Running Point.'
Brenda Song went into her relationship with Macaulay Culkin first thinking it would be a "fling" before it turned into something more.
Song, who stars in new sports comedy Netflix sports comedy Running Point, was a Drew Barrymore Show guest alongside co-stars Kate Hudson, Drew Tarver, and Scott MacArthur last week. Around the three-minute mark of the video below, Barrymore asked Song about how she and Culkin met. The engaged couple, who've been together since 2017, share two sons, Dakota, three, and Carson, two.
Song shared that she and her fiancé met "through a mutual friend," although she didn't remember the first time that happened. The first time I remember meeting him, the show that I was on with our friend got canceled and he was trying to be funny and be like, 'Ah, you know, the show wasn't that great anyway you guys are fine.'"
Culkin's joke didn't land with Song, who said that her future fiancé "backed out of the room" because she "didn't like him" at the time. But that same friend (who was Seth Green) booked Song and Culkin to film Changeland in Thailand, where they began "hanging out."
"And I thought he was going to be my BFF and then I was like 'Oh, wait, I kind of have a crush on him, and then I thought I was going to have my first fling and that fling, has turned into almost eight years and two kids," she continued.
Upon returning to Los Angeles, Song thought that she and Culkin would go their separate ways, but they ended up turning their friendship into a "long-term engagement."
Song, who Culkin proposed to in 2022, explained in a recent Cosmopolitan cover story that he refuses to elope out of not wanting to disappoint her mother.
"We talked about eloping," Brenda told the publication. "But I was like, ‘If we eloped, my mom would have a heart attack that she wasn’t going to be there....'"
