Hilaria Baldwin Says Alec Baldwin Wanted to 'Kill Himself' After 'Rust' Shooting
Hilaria said her husband had "survivor's guilt" after the on-set incident in 2021.
Hilaria Baldwin, the wife of Alec Baldwin, says the actor had suicidal ideations after the accidental 2021 shooting death on the Rust movie set.
On the second episode of the couple's TLC reality show The Baldwins, Hilaria Baldwin shared that her husband sent her frightening text messages about wanting to kill himself after accidentally killing Halyna Hutchins and wounding director Joel Souza with a prop gun.
Alec Baldwin, who maintained his innocence in the incident, was charged with involuntary manslaughter before the case was dismissed last July.
"I found these text messages the other day between us, you know, the day after," recounted Hilaria Baldwin, who's been married to the 30 Rock star since 2012. "And [Alec] said he wanted to kill himself."
In a confessional scene, Baldwin, who shares seven children with her husband, added that her husband "has survivor’s guilt" from the incident.
"You're involved in this thing that nobody could even possibly imagine," she explained. "And so he goes back to that day, he wishes it were him. He would change places [with Hutchins] in a second."
Elsewhere in the episode, Hilaria Baldwin said that her husband will "never be the same," noting changes in his mental and physical health.
"This has affected his health and his mental health tremendously the past few years," she said. "All of a sudden, he has started having heart problems. He's been hospitalized multiple times."
Others charged in the shooting included armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, who was sentenced to 18 months for involuntary manslaughter; safety coordinator Dave Halls, who pleaded no contest and served six months probation; and props master Sarah Zachry, who signed a cooperation agreement with prosecutors.
Last month, Alec Baldwin addressed his PTSD on The Baldwins and said he's sometimes unable to get out of bed because of the shooting. In response to the episode, Hutchins' family questioned the actor's motives.
"Why is he claiming that he has PTSD?" the family said in a statement to The Independent. "Is his reality show just a veiled attempt to create sympathy for himself with a future jury pool in our civil case? Is this just a shameless attempt to portray him as the real victim in this case?"
