Tia Mowry on Child Actor 'Pros and Cons': 'Everyone Has an Opinion'
"You're still figuring out who you are," she said.
Tia Mowry is reflecting on her time as a child actor after being asked about the experience on Instagram.
The actress, who starred in 1990s sitcom Sister, Sister with her twin Tamera Mowry-Housley, held an Instagram Stories Q&A on Wednesday (June 18). Among the questions was, "How did your experiences as a child actor help or hurt you as a successful business woman?"
The 46-year-old answered candidly in writing over a picture of herself and her sister as teens.
"Being a child actor definitely came with its pros and cons," Mowry began.
On a positive note, she said, having a head start in entertainment taught her "responsibility early on," which was instilled as she pursued higher education. Both Tia and Tamera studied psychology at Pepperdine University.
"By the time I got to college, I already knew what it meant to show up for work, have call times, and stay disciplined," Mowry continued.
But Mowry said that "growing up in front of the world" was "tough."
"You're still figuring out who you are, and everyone has an opinion," she wrote.
The sisters' younger brother, Tahj Mowry, followed them in the pursuit of being a child actor, also leading '90s sitcom Smart Guy. Tia counted her sister and family as keeping her "grounded," although she "didn't get to experience childhood the same way" as those not in the industry.
"I was focused on work," she added. "And while I'm proud of that, I also think kids need space to be kids and learn who they are."
Mowry recently shared more behind-the-scenes tidbits of her career on Instagram, like almost missing out on a lead role in mid-2000s sitcom The Game.
