Wendy Williams Remains Under Guardianship After New Medical Exam Results

The talk show host continues to battle two medical conditions.

Wendy Williams will remain under a guardianship after the results of a new medical exam revealed the talk show host continues to battle two medical conditions.

PEOPLE reports they’ve obtained legal documents which show that Williams had undergone a “significant number of tests (both medical and neuropsychological) and scans (including brain imaging).” The outlet cites sources who claim Williams has again been diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia and aphasia. She was first diagnosed with these medical conditions two years prior.

Due to this diagnosis, Williams’ guardian, Sabrina Morrissey, has asked the court to extend her role in overseeing the entertainer’s affairs for three more months. Her guardianship has been extended to November 5.

The outlet reports that attorneys for Williams’ family may challenge her guardianship and Morrissey’s role in overseeing her personal affairs. She’s held the role since 2022.

Williams has vocally opposed her guardianship. She insists she is mentally competent.

Because of her diagnosis, the former radio personality has lived in a memory care facility. In a March appearance on The View, Williams declared, “I am not permitted to do anything but stay on this floor, the memory unit floor, where these people are 90 and 80 and 70. Look, I’m 60. Why am I here…where people don’t remember anything?”

“I want to terminate the guardianship and move on with my life. If that’s possible at all,” she added.

Williams’ personal and professional challenges were addressed in the 2024 Lifetime documentary, Where Is Wendy Williams? The four-episode series looked into her health struggles, medical conditions, and the end of her eponymous talk show.

The series was intended as a follow-up to her 2021 documentary Wendy Williams: What A Mess, which dove into Williams’ public divorce from Kevin Hunter, and other issues. In May, ID debuted Trapped: What is Happening to Wendy Williams, which followed her current hospitalization and subsequent legal battles.
