Will Smith Stuns Fans at 'Starlite' Festival: Is the Slap Era Officially Over?
Have fans forgiven the rapper for the incident that threatened to derail his career?
Will Smith stunned fans with a high-energy performance at the Starlite Festival in Marbella, Spain. The entertainer brought the crowd to its feet. So, have fans forgiven him? Is the slap era officially over?
In an Instagram post, Smith shared a slideshow of photos documenting the events of July 26. He wrote in the caption, “Y’all got Will feelin’ like Will again!!”
Fans showed their love for Smith in a series of photos from the event. Some held up playful signs claiming they “got fired” just to be there, while others paid tribute to his iconic TV roots by calling him the “Fresh Prince of Marbella.”
This concert came one month after an impromptu performance in London, where the entertainer surprised fans outside of King’s Cross Station. He teamed up with DJ AG for a live rendition of his and Jazzy Jeff's hit Summertime.
Following, Rita Ora made a surprise appearance, showing off some dance moves as Smith and DJ AG had the crowd dancing and singing along. After the rapper was whisked away, Ora kept the energy high with a performance of some of her biggest hits, including “Hot Right Now” and “R.I.P.”
In March, the actor and musician took the stage at the House of Blues in Las Vegas. There, he honored his late Fresh Prince of Bel-Air co-star James Avery, who played Uncle Phil, with a touching tribute during the show.
The tribute included a cover of “Apache,” reported PEOPLE Magazine. Avery died in December 2013.
It appears that fans have forgotten about the Oscars slap that threatened to end Smith’s career. In March 2022, the entertainer approached the stage after Chris Rock made a joke about Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, and struck him in the face.
Smith subsequently apologized to Rock on Instagram, resigned from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and was banned from all Academy events for 10 years.
