Billy McFarland Responds After Mexican Officials Say Fyre Fest 2 Isn't Happening
Playa del Carmen is the second Mexican town to say the festival won't be taking place in its area.
Mexican officials say that Fyre Festival 2 isn’t happening—again.
Festival organizers announced late last month that it would be held in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, from May 30 to June 2. Now, the Playa del Carmen government has made its own announcement declaring that the event won’t be happening there.
"The municipal government of Playa del Carmen informs that no event of that name will be held in our city," said a statement shared by Playa del Carmen's city hall on social media this week. "After a responsible review of the situation, it is confirmed that there are no records, plans, or conditions that indicate the holding of such an event in the municipality."
It looks like the venue will have to change again. Playa del Carmen’s announcement comes weeks after officials in Isla Mujeres, the first location where the event was supposed to take place, announced that they were unaware of the event happening.
Festival founder Billy McFarland took to Instagram to rebuke the reports that the event wasn’t happening.
“FYRE has been working directly with the government of Playa del Carmen (PDC) and their officials since March 5, 2025 to ensure a safe and successful event,” wrote a post from the festival’s official Instagram account. “All media reports suggesting our team has not been working with the government of PDC are simply inaccurate and based on misinformation.”
TMZ reported that Fyre Festival 2 event producer Nick Botero felt screwed by Playa del Carmen’s recent announcement.
The publication obtained text messages from the producer, with him allegedly writing, "They [the government] posted on X, Instagram, etc giving their blessing and support and then yesterday they say we've never heard of them it's hilarious."
Botero also claimed that the festival’s staff didn’t do anything wrong.
“They’re just lying completely,” he allegedly wrote. “And at this point, we’re not doing any event there and we plan on making it very public and showing all of the evidence. We will move it somewhere else.”
In March, Antonio Brown suggested that he’d be performing at the sequel to the infamously disastrous festival.
"Ayo, this AB and I'll be performing at Fyre Fest Part 2 in Mexico, May 30th," Brown said in a video, as reported by TMZ. "Be there or be square and make sure you put that shit on."
