Gilbert Arenas claims that the reason his son Alijah Arenas got into a fiery car accident was because of the Tesla Cybertruck that he was traveling in malfunctioned.

Gilbert spoke about his 18-year-old son’s experience on an episode of the All The Smoke podcast. “The car malfunctioned on him,” he said. “The steering wheel went limp and ran him right into a tree.”

“He couldn’t break the window,” Gilbert added. “Physically, he said he was trying to kick the window in and couldn’t. If you’re a parent and your teen has this car, you might want to put a hammer in that joint.”

Gilbert then explained that he told his son how lucky he was that he survived the accident. “I gave him that speech,” he explained. “You’re a lucky one to see this. Most people don’t get to see the flowers and how everyone reacts when something happens…You can’t take this shit for granted.”

Alijah was involved in a serious crash on Apr. 24 when the Cybertruck that he was traveling in struck a tree and a fire hydrant in Los Angeles. Following the fiery crash, medical authorities placed Alijah in an induced coma to treat him for ingesting high levels of carbon dioxide.

Alijah was released from the hospital six days after the crash. His family revealed in a statement that he was “now resting comfortably under close watch” and that his journey to a full recovery is ‘just beginning.”

"The Govan and Arenas family are preparing for the road ahead with faith and determination, committed to nurturing Alijah back to 100%. He remains blessed, resilient, and in high spirits," wrote the family in a statement.
