Keanu Reeves Reportedly Playing Villain in Weezer Movie
Rivers Cuomo recently confirmed the movie was happening.
Keanu Reeves is reportedly set to play a villain role in an upcoming movie about Weezer.
The InSneider reports that Reeves will play a villain in a movie about the legendary band, adding to his diverse list of career roles. He’s been everything from a bus savior (Speed) to a practically superhuman assassin (John Wick) so far.
During Coachella recently, Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo confirmed that the film was happening. Details about what it’s about, though, are pretty light; it’s rumored to be a mockumentary film that’s been compared to Scott Pilgrim vs. the World meets Weird: The Al Yankovic Story.
Reeves has an interesting connection to Weezer that stretches back as far as the early 1990s. Back then, Reeves and his band, Dogstar, opened up for Weezer in 1992.
2025 is shaping up to be a big year for Reeves. In addition to being a part of this film, Lionsgate Studios announced that a fifth John Wick movie is currently in development, even though his character practically died at the end of John Wick: Chapter 4. It turns out that having a $73.5 million opening weekend can bring characters back from the dead.
Reeves has previously suggested that his knees wouldn’t be happy with him if he filmed another one of the John Wick movies. "You can never say never, but my knees right now are saying, 'You can't do another John Wick,'" Reeves joked. "So my heart does, but I don't know if my knees can do it."
Prior to that, Wick opened up about the physical challenges of playing John Wick during a tenth-anniversary screening of the first film in the franchise.
"I had so many wonderful teachers and guidance and worked with so many talented actors, actresses, and stunt people in the sense that it's such a dance and collaboration and cooperation," he said. "So there's a couple of times where you throw up or puke or whatever, but that's what makes it good!"
