Lil Wayne’s Advice to Tyrese Haliburton: ‘Hang Ten Dude and Make Em Ride Ya Wave'
Wayne weighed in after Haliburton's Game 1 clutch shot.
Lil Wayne wants Tyrese Haliburton to know he’s got his back.
Just days after releasing his Tha Carter VI album, Wayne lent his support to the 25-year-old Indiana Pacers star who's surrounded by buzz amid the NBA Finals.
“Hali u gon have to sweep these boyz to get some real respect from these folks. Ya clearly walking on water rn and they act like ya surfing,” Weezy, 42, tweeted on Sunday morning.
He added, “Hang ten dude and make em ride ya wave! Or drown. Ain’t that a beach.”
Wayne’s endorsement came on the heels of Haliburton’s performance in Game 1 of the NBA Finals on Thursday (June 5), when the Pacers beat the Oklahoma City Thunder 111-110.
Haliburton scored the winning shot with just 0.3 seconds left, making it his fourth winning or tying shot in the final five seconds of a game this postseason, according to ESPN.
“As a group, we never think the game is over, ever,” Haliburton told the sports outlet. "Honestly speaking, ever.
“I don't know what you say about it, but I know that this group is a resilient group,” he added. “And we don't give up until it's 0.0 on the clock.”
The win on Thursday also drew reactions on X from other big names in the sports world, including Caitlin Clark, Patrick Mahomes, and Magic Johnson.
“YOU CANT MAKE IT UP,” Clark wrote with 17 crying emoji.
“Helly!?!?” posted Mahomes, referencing Rob49’s viral hit “WTHELLY.”
“Tyrese Haliburton does it again!!!” Johnson wrote. “What an incredible shot by Tyrese Haliburton to seal the victory for the Indiana Pacers in Game 1 of the NBA Finals. That was an amazing fourth quarter comeback by the entire Pacers team!”
