Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson Will Not Return to WWE Amid SummerSlam Rumors
"Internal sources stated that there is no indication" that The Rock will get back in the ring.
The Rock is not expected to return to WWE television, or the squared circle, anytime soon.
According to Bleacher Report, which cited internal sources, this latest update effectively rules him out of SummerSlam, the two-night premium live event set for August 2–3 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
Earlier this year, The Rock appeared to be positioned as Cody Rhodes’ chief antagonist. But on March 1 at the Elimination Chamber premium live event, he helped facilitate John Cena’s shocking heel turn, setting the stage for what looked like a multi-man storyline heading into WrestleMania 41.
After that segment, however, The Rock made no additional appearances during the build to Philadelphia.
Still, WrestleMania 41 went on without him. Cena defeated Rhodes to win the Undisputed WWE Championship, closing the company’s biggest show with a title change that did not involve “The Final Boss.” Without The Rock present, the teased conflict between Rhodes and Johnson never materialized on screen.
Rhodes and Cena are now scheduled for a rematch in the SummerSlam main event. With The Rock absent, their program will proceed without the interference or involvement many fans had been speculating about since March. The company has not announced any alternative plans for Johnson or hinted at a surprise cameo.
As of now, there is no timetable for when, or if, The Rock will re-enter WWE storylines, but a current check of internal calendars by Bleacher Report shows no such plans. That leaves his future role—if any—in ongoing narratives undefined.
For viewers tracking his status, the key points are simple: The Rock missed WrestleMania 41, is not booked for SummerSlam on August 2–3, and remains on hiatus from WWE programming.
Until official updates surface, Cody Rhodes and John Cena will resolve their feud on their own, while “The Final Boss” stays on the sidelines.
