Chelsea Green is stepping away from social media after facing intense backlash over her comments on Hulk Hogan following his death.

According to JustJared, the WWE star paid tribute to Hogan—who died on July 24 at age 71 from cardiac arrest—during a CBS News segment, calling him “an absolute icon” despite his “polarizing political views.”

While Hogan remains a legendary figure in pro wrestling, his legacy is complicated by a leaked 2015 audio recording in which he used racist slurs. He was released from his WWE contract at the time, though reinstated into the Hall of Fame in 2018. His public support of Donald Trump and speech at the 2024 Republican National Convention further polarized opinions.

Green’s comments quickly drew criticism from fans who felt she downplayed Hogan’s past. Responding on X, Green clarified, “My stance on racism is unwavering. I do not condone it—period. If my response seemed dismissive of real concerns, I sincerely apologize. I tried to acknowledge a death respectfully, even when the legacy is complicated.”

The backlash only escalated. Green revealed that she received death threats and hateful messages, prompting her decision to step back from social media entirely. “The name-calling, the death threats, the faceless accounts,” she wrote, “Social media was supposed to be a fun place, and it hasn’t been for a while.”

Green joins a chorus of wrestling figures speaking out in the wake of Hogan’s death. WWE honored him with a tribute package and 10-bell salute on SmackDown. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson called him “immortal” and “a childhood hero.”

But the response hasn’t been unanimously positive. Actor Michael Rapaport defended Hogan in a viral Instagram video, saying, “We’re not gonna disrespect the Hulkster… I don’t care if he had some controversy outside of the ring.”

Comedian Aries Spears pushed back, asking, “So we’re not gonna disrespect the Hulkster, but it was OK for him to disrespect an entire race of people???”
