Philadelphia Eagles Address Fake Political Ads Endorsing Kamala Harris
The "counterfeit" ads were found on city bus stops.
The Philadelphia Eagles have not endorsed Kamala Harris as president.
Ads on bus stop benches depict an animated Harris wearing an Eagles helmet and holding a football, alongside the slogan, “Official candidate of the Philadelphia Eagles.” However, according to TMZ, the ads aren’t legit.
The outlet reports that the NFL team hasn’t shown its support for one presidential candidate. The Eagles addressed the situation in a tweet, writing, “We are aware counterfeit political ads are being circulated and are working with our advertising partner to have them removed.”
Intersection Media, the company that owns the bus stops in question, also issued a statement.
"We are aware that several of our bus shelters located in Philadelphia have been vandalized and that the paid advertising copy in each of those shelters has been replaced with an unauthorized copy," the company told NBC 10.
"While our bus shelters have locks that typically prevent the installation of unauthorized copy by non-Intersection staff, occasionally people find a way to unlock the ad box and insert unauthorized copy."
The city of Philadelphia is now taking down the posters, and they are reportedly hoping to remove all of them by Tuesday.
While the ads were fake, the URL on the poster was not. The website includes voting resources for New Jersey and Pennsylvania, targeted at Eagles fans. However, neither Harris nor Donald Trump are mentioned.
It’s unclear who vandalized the bus stops. The Philadelphia District Attorney's Office told TMZ that it has opened a probe into the incident.
