Serena Williams took offense after a restaurant in Paris wouldn’t seat her and her kids.
The legendary tennis player took to X on Monday, claiming that The Peninsula Paris denied entry to her and her two children, six-year-old Olympia and one-year-old Adira. Williams claimed that the restaurant wouldn’t let them dine even though the rooftop was empty. The 42-year-old is in Paris with her family for the Summer Olympics.
“Yikes @peninsulaparis I’ve been denied access to rooftop to eat in a empty restaurant of nicer places but never with my kids. Always a first. #Olympic2024,” she tweeted, alongside a photo of The Peninsula Paris sign.
The restaurant replied to her tweet, writing, “Dear Mrs. Williams, Please accept our deepest apologies for the disappointment you encountered tonight. Unfortunately, our rooftop bar was indeed fully booked and the only unoccupied tables you saw belonged to our gourmet restaurant, L’Oiseau Blanc, which was fully reserved.”
In a follow-up tweet, The Peninsula said she will always be welcome in the establishment: “We have always been honored to welcome you and will always be to welcome you again.”
Serena has been active at the Summer Olympics, which saw the four-time Olympic gold medal winner take a ride on the Seine River during the opening ceremony. According to E! News, she has also been extremely enthusiastic about Team USA women’s gymnasts Simone Biles, Suni Lee, Jordan Chiles, Jade Carey, and Hezly Rivera.
