Indiana Fever Share an Important Announcement About Sophie Cunningham
It’s been a season of hard fouls and hospital visits for the Indiana Fever.
It’s been a devastating season for the Indiana Fever, one filled with hard fouls and hospital visits. It has already been announced that both Sydney Coleson and Aari McDonald will remain on the sidelines for the rest of the season due to injuries. Star player Caitlin Clark has not played since July 15 after suffering an injury to her groin. Now the Indiana Fever has shared a disappointing announcement about Sophie Cunningham as well.
Cunningham is officially out for the remainder of the 2025 season.
The 29-year-old guard injured her right knee during a game against the Connecticut Sun on August 17. She fell to the floor, writhing in pain and grabbing her knee after the injury occurred. It was later confirmed that she tore her MCL.
After Cunningham was helped off the court, the Fever somehow managed to come back from being 22 points behind. They won in overtime with a final score of 99 to 93. Kelsey Mitchell was the obvious star of the show, tying her career high score of 38 points.
Following the game, Mitchell recalled the moment she realized Cunningham was seriously injured and discussed how it gave her the fuel to push through the rest of the game.
"It's deja vu, man," she began.
“I feel like I just saw AB (Aliyah Boston) on the ground covering someone else up, and it was just — I think part of it is truly humbling," she continued. "But on the other side, seeing Soph go down, it fuels you. If you care about your team, care about the people in your locker room — I can’t even explain it. You just really have to care about the people you play with, and it fuels who we are as people.”
Meanwhile, there is still no news about when Clark may be able to return to the court.
