Robert Griffin III is facing criticism for a skit in which his wife turns Black, accompanied by a caption that reads: "When you accidentally take Melanin instead of Melatonin to fall asleep."

On Thursday, the former football player shared a skit in which his wife mistakenly takes a “melanin pill” instead of melatonin before bed and wakes up as a Black person—played by Griffin himself.

People online had polarizing reactions to the skit, feeling that RGIII might have gone a bit too far with the joke.

"There's some ideas that your girl will bring to you that you just gotta shut down. This is one of them," one person tweeted. Another said, "During black history month?!?!"

Someone else mentioned RGIII's current round of unemployment, writing, "And this is exactly why no one wants to hire you, lol."

The commotion online was enough to get RGIII to respond to the criticism. In a tweet, the 35-year-old argued that there was nothing wrong with finding humor in the skit and that people shouldn't be offended by everything.

"God has a sense of humor," wrote RGIII. "It's okay to laugh and not be offended by everything. Sometimes we trip when nothing is there, forget why we walked into a room and have God facepalming when we eat a whole pizza while on a no carb diet. God knew life would be too hard without laughter."
