Cardi B’s Attorney Criticizes Microphone Lawsuit, Calls It an ‘Opportunity to Try to Make Money’
The alleged victim is suing the rapper for assault, battery, and negligence after an incident during a 2023 performance in Las Vegas.
Cardi B’s attorney suggests the lawsuit filed against the rapper over the microphone tossing incident in 2023 is a financial shakedown.
In a statement shared with TMZ, Cardi’s lawyer Drew Findling said, "The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and the Clark County District Attorney’s Office closed this matter for insufficient evidence a long time ago, but apparently the opportunity to try to make money off of a celebrity was too much for some willing law firm to pass up."
On Wednesday (July 23), it was reported that a new complaint was made against the Am I The Drama rapper for assault and battery over an incident during a 2023 performance at Drai’s Beachclub in Las Vegas.
The Jane Doe claims she threw her drink at Cardi—after she encouraged the crowd to throw water at her to beat the heat, only for Cardi to retaliate by throwing the mic back at her.
The alleged victim, now suing for assault, battery, and negligence, also claims the auctioning of the microphone for charity worsened her emotional distress.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department launched an investigation but cleared the rapper of any criminal charges in August 2023.
At the time, it was reported that the complaint was filed not from the person Cardi allegedly targeted but from a second individual who was hit when the microphone ricocheted.
Cardi addressed the incident in an interview with the Breakfast Club.
"It was really, like, a quick reaction," Cardi said at the time. "And let me tell you motherfuckers, I didn’t wanna address it because I thought [I] was going to jail but I’m not."
"It was hotter than a motherfucker," she explained. "There was a part of the show that I told people, you know, 'splash me.' But even when I told people 'splash me,' I was like, 'Be careful with the face.'"
Four songs later, someone hurled water and ice in the direction of Cardi’s face, leaving her feeling “very violated.”
“This bitch threw water and ice on my face so I just automatically reacted,” Cardi recalled. “I didn’t even know that I was throwing it at that direction. I just threw the shit because it’s like, ‘bitch, you hit me right in my face.’ And when I look at the video it’s like, nah, you intended to throw that shit in my face.”
Cardi has not responded to the complaint on her social media accounts.
