Skepta Fires Back at Joyner Lucas With “Round 2” Diss
The two rappers have been trading disses for the past week.
Skepta returned fire at Joyner Lucas on the new track, “Round 2.”
The song is very clearly aimed at Lucas, as the intro says, “What do we think of Joyner? (Shit!) / What do we think of shit? (Joyner!) / Thank you! (That's alright!) / (Bastard, bastard) / (Joyner Lucas, you bastard).”
Elsewhere in the song, Big Smoke nods to his previous Lucas-aimed diss, “Friendly Fire”: “‘Friendly Fire’ was a jab, had to give 'em a tetanus / Now I apply the pressure until he surrenders / You ain't been Tottenham, you don't know the members / You ain't got a catalogue that's as cold as Skepta's / What the fuck is a Joyner Lucas?”
Skepta and Joyner’s feud began earlier this month, when Skepta responded to a tweet that said UK rap is “dead.”
“The average American rapper don’t even listen to UK rappers,” Skepta responded, “But we’ve listened to them (for years) and that is exactly why the UK can’t lose.”
Joyner took this as a challenge. “Say the word,” he wrote to Skepta.
The two then traded barbs on social media. “When I drop my diss track for [ASAP] Rocky, I’m gonna give you two bars,” Skepta said, explaining that he “didn’t do the work I did for Joyner Lucas to be saying my name.”
Skepta then unleashed “Friendly Fire” on July 10, in which he called Lucas a "bastard," and asked, "Why you rap like you studied at Harvard?"
Lucas continued the intercontinental beef with “Nobody Cares” on July 15. "Maybe you're mad because you ain't got buzz up in the U.K. no more / I heard your career just ain't what it was and you don't get paid no more / If you want a feature, n***a, just say it, but you gotta pay me for it / And after I body you I don't want you ever saying my name anymore," he raps.
