The Batman Part II is officially in motion, and director Matt Reeves is finally sharing a glimpse into what fans can expect when the sequel lands in theaters in October 2027.

Speaking to SFX Magazine (via ComingSoon.net), Reeves revealed that the follow-up to his gritty 2022 noir take on the Caped Crusader will dive even deeper into the heart of Gotham’s corruption.

“It’s going to dig into the epic story about deeper corruption, and it goes into places he couldn’t even anticipate in the first one,” said Reeves, referring to Bruce Wayne’s ongoing battle to save the city from itself. While specific plot details remain under wraps, Reeves made it clear that The Batman Part II won’t stray too far from the grounded realism that made the first film stand out in the superhero genre. “What was important to me was to find a way to take these pop icons, these mythic characters that everybody knows, and translate it so that Gotham feels like a place in our world … It’s meant to feel quite grounded,” he explained.

As for the sequel’s villains? That remains a mystery.

The first film left plenty of threads to pick up — including the survival of Paul Dano’s Riddler and the tease of the Joker’s presence at Arkham. Reeves hasn’t confirmed whether either will return, but speculation has run wild.

DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn recently shut down a rumor about the movie’s villain lineup and the possible debut of Dick Grayson/Robin, suggesting that official announcements may still be far off.

Robert Pattinson will reprise his role as Batman, continuing the dark, introspective portrayal that helped The Batman gross over $770 million worldwide.

The original cast also included Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman, Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Colin Farrell as Penguin, Andy Serkis as Alfred, and Peter Sarsgaard as Gil Colson.
