Food Network Chef Anne Burrell's Death Ruled Suicide, Medical Examiner Confirms

Food Network star Anne Burrell died by suicide, the NYC Office of Chief Medical Examiner confirms.

Food Network chef Anne Burrell’s death has officially been ruled a suicide.

The New York City Office of the Chief Medical Examiner confirmed that the cause of Burrell’s death was acute intoxication from multiple substances, according to NBC News.

The beloved chef died by suicide last month after being found unresponsive in her home in Brooklyn, New York. The fire department responded to the chef’s home on the morning of June 17 after a cardiac arrest had been reported and were unable to revive her. She was declared dead upon arrival.

TMZ reports that diphenhydramine, ethanol, cetirizine, and amphetamines were found in her system.

On the day of her passing, Burrell’s husband, Stuart Claxton, found her lying on the shower floor unresponsive. Sources told TMZ that police had found several kinds of pills near her body. An investigation into her death was opened.

Burrell was well known within Food Network for her spiky blond hair and amped-up personality. She was a fan-favorite host on Worst Cooks of America and Worst Cooks in America: Celebrity Edition.

She also had a popular at-home cooking show called Secrets of a Restaurant Chef which ran for nine seasons and taught viewers easy master techniques that they could use to add more depth to their dishes at home.

Burrell regularly appeared on other famous Food Network shows like Chopped and Beat Bobby Flay. She even won season 4 of Chopped All-Stars Tournament, where she donated the $75,000 prize to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.

The celebrity chef had enrolled in the Culinary Institute of America with a passion for the restaurant business and later spent a year in Italy attending the Italian Culinary Institute for Foreigners where she worked at a one-Michelin-star restaurant.

Burrell was 55 years old at the time of her death.
