Larry David Returns to HBO With American History Sketch Show Produced by the Obamas
Obamas’ Higher Ground to produce Larry David's new American history sketch comedy.
HBO hasn't seen the last of Larry David. After his long-running hit semi-improvised comedy Curb Your Enthusiasm gave its last hurrah in 2024, creator and star David stepped away from television... for a few short months.
On Thursday, July 10, it was reported that David would be returning to HBO with a new sketch comedy series about American history. The new series will star David, much like his previous success on Curb. But unlike his earlier comedy, this new series will be produced by Higher Ground Productions: a production company founded by Barack and Michelle Obama.
The former president and former first lady are joining forces with the comedic legend in honor of the country's 250th birthday. “President and Mrs. Obama wanted to honor America’s 250th anniversary and celebrate the unique history of our nation on this special occasion … But then Larry David called," says the official logline.
“I’ve sat across the table from some of the world’s most difficult leaders and wrestled with some of our most intractable problems. Nothing has prepared me for working with Larry David,” joked the former POTUS in a press release.
David's comedy chops are impressive. The 78-year-old is best known for being a co-creator of the classic sitcom Seinfeld, in addition to 24 years of writing, producing, and starring in Curb Your Enthusiasm. Given his extensive resume, fans have high hopes for the new series.
"He's back!" one fan said on X (formerly Twitter).
"If LD’s involved - I’m in," says another commenter on Instagram.
The new series is still untitled, and much of the cast is to be announced, although viewers can expect a few Curb Your Enthusiasm guest stars and other actors thrown into the mix.
