ASAP Rocky's Lawyer Joe Tacopina Says He 'Eviscerated' ASAP Relli in Gun Assault Trial
"He was his own worst enemy.”
ASAP Rocky’s lawyer Joe Tacopina explained his strategy to get the rapper acquitted during a recent interview.
Tacopina appeared on The Breakfast Club and explained his court strategy to successfully defend Rocky in his felony gun assault trial. “My defense was to eviscerate ASAP Relli,” said Tacopina. “This guy is an absolute, pathological liar. And I eviscerated him. I told this jury, you’ve got a front-row seat to history because you just witnessed the worst witness (ever). “You could cross-examine him. He was his own worst enemy.”
“He sued for thirty million over knuckle scrapes,” Tacopina continued. “This guy’s a clown. And he’s an admitted liar, an admitted perjurer. He lied at least to the jury 20 times.”
Rocky was found not guilty last week. Immediately after the verdict was read in court, the rapper dived to hug his mom and Rihanna as people in the crowd screamed in relief. Rocky thanked the jurors for “saving my life” and “making the right decision” while on his way out of the courtroom.
After the verdict, Tacopina recounted how he felt when he found out that Rocky was acquitted. "I knew there were two counts, and you know, I've seen odd things happen in jury verdicts where they could split the verdict…" Tacopina said to Extra. "And so after the first 'not guilty', I'm laser-focused on the clerk to hear that second count.”
“And I look to my right, he's gone. And I didn't know. I didn't know he left. He was just gone. I was like, I said to my partner, 'Did he leave?'... And I see him on top of Rihanna … I couldn't process it quickly enough,” Tacopina continued.
The lawyer then revealed a conversation that he had with Rocky and Rihanna about what they might name their next child. "Rihanna and Rocky said to me in the courtroom yesterday, they grabbed me and they said, 'Listen, our next baby is ASAP Joe,'" he shared.
