Carmelo Anthony Praises Anthony Edwards in LeBron Matchup: ‘He’s Here’
Melo said Ant is "here" and knows he has to "take the King out" to reach the mountaintop.
Carmelo Anthony has revealed he loves the grit Anthony Edwards is showing against LeBron James in the first-round playoff matchup between the Los Angeles Lakers and Minnesota Timberwolves.
On the latest episode of 7 PM in Brooklyn, Melo broke down Edwards' showing against LeBron, and it's something to see as Ant is proving he's willing to go up against anyone to reach the mountaintop. According to Melo, Edwards is "here," and he believes the T'Wolves superstar has "figured it out."
"It's hard to figure it out at a young age like that," said Melo. "He's figure out how to go get it. I said this earlier in the season, I always revert back to the season [...] people was so down on Ant and its this and that [...] it's a long ass season, now they found their groove."
Melo highlighted how Ant's teammates, specifically Julius Randle and Jaden McDaniels, are showing up and balling out, allowing Edwards to "do what he do." The newly-crowned Hall of Famer also highlighted how Edwards is a true student of the game and understands he has to "take the King out" if he wants to be the top dog.
Melo also referenced Edwards' dominance in the playoffs last year, where the Wolves swept the Kevin Durant-led Phoenix Suns and eliminated Nikola Jokic's Denver Nuggets in a seven-game series thriller.
"'I know I gotta go take it. I got to really take it from him. I gotta show like I'm trying to take it,'" Melo responded as if he were Ant. "I'm just saying in this moment, 'I gotta show everybody. I've showed y'all before. I did that to Denver, I did that to KD in Phoenix."
He added, "I always say Mortal Kombat. It's like you're going up the chamber, you're going up the ladder. It's hard for me to call my brother 'The King' but like just the notion of him being 'The King' like he's King James and Ant is like, 'I have to go take it from him. I have to push him in his chest [...] I got to go take this shit,' and that's what we're seeing."
Melo also spoke on how Edwards "five-yard checked" LeBron at half-court in a recent game in the series. That move, and more, had Melo proudly stating he loves what he's seeing from the 23-year-old superstar.
"If you're going to take something from somebody, that's the way you approach it and he's on his way to doing that," said Melo.
Ant-Man will be looking to send LeBron and the Lakers home packing in Game 5 on Wednesday night. Meanwhile, the King is hoping to lead his Laker army through a tough, grueling "win or go home" battle in order to stay alive in the first-round Western Conference matchup.
