Former NBA star DeMarcus Cousins found himself at the center of chaos Monday night during a Baloncesto Superior Nacional basketball game in Puerto Rico after he was ejected and taunted by fans.

During the game, Cousins, who was playing for the Guaynabo Mets, was ejected late in the matchup against the Bayamon Vaqueros.

Video footage showed he received a cold reception from fans who booed him and more. One fan appeared to flip him off, which led Cousins to briefly grab the individual and respond with a middle finger of his own toward the crowd.

That gesture prompted fans to hurl drinks and popcorn at the 34-year-old, pushing the tension to a breaking point. Security and police quickly intervened as Cousins charged toward the stands.

Cousins was held back and even tackled to the ground in an effort to de-escalate the situation. Before his ejection, Cousins posted 11 points, seven rebounds, and five assists in 27 minutes, according to LatinBasket.com.

Despite his early efforts, Guaynabo fell 101–91 to Bayamon, whose roster features ex-NBA players Danilo Gallinari, JaVale McGee, and Chris Duarte. Guaynabo is led by head coach and former NBA champion J.J. Barea.

Cousins, a four-time NBA All-Star, has continued his basketball career internationally since his last NBA appearance in 2022. He previously led the Taiwan Beer Tigers to a championship in 2024 and had a brief stint in Mongolia before rejoining Guaynabo.
