Lil Yachty Says He's Working on New Album While Shopping for Gold Jesus Chain
The rapper recently called out people from The Bronx for not knowing how to dress.
Lil Yachty has revealed he's working on a whole new album in the state he recently called out for falling behind in the fashion department.
On Tuesday, popular Atlanta jewelry shop Icebox shared a video on its YouTube page of Yachty stopping by to checkout a few watches while also picking up a gold Jesus pendant chain. While shopping around, Lil Boat told the store's employee that he was working on a new album in Brooklyn, New York.
"I'm working on my new album right now in Brooklyn and I'm loving it," said Yachty.
It's unclear when the video was recorded at Icebox, as Yachty dropped his collaborative album with James Blake, Bad Cameo, back in June. The Atlanta native's last solo album came in 2023 with Let's Start Here, which adopted a more psychedelic sound, a departure from Yachty's usual trap records. It debuted at No. 9 on the Billboard 200 and moved 36,000 album-equivalent units in its first week.
Yachty announced he's recording an album in Brooklyn weeks after calling out how New Yorkers dress. People took offense and interpreted Yachty's comments as him saying people from The Bronx are slacking when it comes to fashion trends and the rapper became a villain in the eyes of New Yorkers.
Yachty attempted to clarify his statement and say that Atlanta is leading the way regarding fashion trends but made it clear he would never disrespect what the Big Apple has contributed to the culture.
"I stand on what I said. The culture [right now] is ran by Atlanta, bro," said Yachty. "When we're talking about the history of fashion, I would never disrespect New York culture. Anybody that knows me knows I love Wu-Tang. I love Dipset. Real GOATs when it comes to this fashion shit."
