Tyler, the Creator Says He Was ‘Turnt’ While Making His New Album on Tour
Tyler said recording 'Don't Tap the Glass' while touring gave him "so much life."
Tyler, the Creator took a moment to reflect on the recording process of his ninth studio album, Don't Tap the Glass, during a pop-up concert in New York City.
The album, which was released on Monday (July 21), was recorded while the two-time Grammy winner was on tour to support his 2024 album, Chromakopia. But while performing at Under the K Bridge Park on Wednesday (July 23), Tyler expressed how making Glass between exhausing Chromakopia World Tour dates was worth it.
“Chromakopia tour is from February 6th to September 23rd, y’all,” he said in the TikTok below. “I’m so tired. Mentally, physically, I’m fucking beat. But making this shit on tour, this album–this ten-song, thirty-minute thing–was giving me so much life.”
Tyler added that he didn’t want the LP to be “precious,” but that he wanted to make something that got “straight to the point” and was “turnt.”
“No fucking intros, no outros, I just wanted to get to the point,” he continued. “For y’all to come here tonight and share that spirit with me means so much more than y’all know, man, forreal.”
On Don't Tap the Glass is lead single "Stop Playing With Me," and Tyler has stressed how much he wanted the album to be dance-oriented.
"I asked some friends why they don’t dance in public and some said because of the fear of being filmed," Tyler wrote in a statement. “I thought damn, a natural form of expression and a certain connection they have with music is now a ghost. It made me wonder how much of our human spirit got killed because of the fear of being a meme, all for having a good time."
ComplexCon returns to Las Vegas on October 25–26, 2025, with over 300 brands and live performances by Young Thug, YEAT & Friends, Peso Pluma, Central Cee, Ken Carson, and more. Get your tickets now.
